The story

A first for New Zealand

The 32nd annual conference of the International Group for Lean Construction was the first held in New Zealand, hosted at AUT over six days. Amir served as Co-Chair.

Why lean matters

Lean construction aims to raise productivity and cut waste. With the built environment responsible for a significant share of New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions, the conference framed lean methods as a route to lower emissions and lower building costs.

The programme

The week ran from an Industry Day and a Workshop Day with a Gemba Walk, through a three-day Technical Conference, to a PhD School. Keynotes came from IGLC co-founder Professor Glenn Ballard and Matthew Hulett of Kāinga Ora.
